Life-Work balance does that even exist?
Yes, it does! But… it might take you a while to find your path and to realize that it’s not just a luxury but really needed if you want to live a happy, joyful, and successful life!
It took me more than 10 years to figure out that being “busy” isn’t the norm! That it isn’t normal to forget about yourself completely. That working long days isn’t the (only) way to go…
I didn’t realize that by being successful in my business I was neglecting my health, my family, and my personal development.
I was always feeling overwhelmed, couldn’t find that switch to turn off, had lots of health problems, and spend a considerable amount of time in the doctor’s waiting room. “If I can make it to the end of the month, then it will all be better” I kept telling myself. Let’s not to mention all the birthday parties and social gatherings I missed because it was too busy!
I started to wonder if all these sacrifices were worth it.
I still don’t understand why it took me so long to realize that I was walking a path that wasn’t mine to walk. I just knew that there must be another way, but it only seemed possible for those happy few… I just couldn’t see that other way for me!
Prioritize your well-being and reduce stress… not add to it!
As soon as I approached my life from a different perspective, I’ve learned that creating a solid life-work balance IS possible, not complicated at all and that it has lots of benefits!
I experienced a lot of positive changes. Not only in my own life but I could also see that it was rippling out to others as well. I was not that snappy person anymore, had lots of energy, and was finally able to enjoy the little things!
By prioritizing my own well-being, I was able to show up for others and for my business in a totally different way! In a better way.
My first step was to identify what balance meant to me. What areas in my life was I neglecting? Why was I not able to achieve that balance way sooner? What kept me from prioritizing my overall well-being?
Finding that life-work balance can have a totally different meaning to all of us. First, it depends on which stage of life you are in right now. So please do yourself a favor and refrain from comparing your journey to somebody else’s. We all got our own priorities set out.
Another important factor is to find out what fuels you, what energizes you to tackle those things that have to be done. Maybe even more importantly, what are your energy zappers?
As soon as I wrote down the answers to the difficult questions I asked myself, I was able to set my priorities straight. From there on, it was easier to organize my days and to say NO.
The result …
I’m not “busy” anymore but productive and effective in the things I do. I actually have time to do the things I like and love doing while building my business(es); yes, I guess once an entrepreneur, always an entrepreneur. Last year I tested out the 4-day workweek and I’m loving it! My new motto in life… LESS IS MORE!
More energy, more satisfaction, more time, more joy, and happiness.
Because I take time to prioritize my own needs, my mental and physical health has improved tremendously! By creating a healthier lifestyle, I can concentrate on things a lot better and become a lot more efficient. No more spending hours in the doctor’s waiting room!
By creating my daily morning routine, I’ve literally set myself on the top of my to-do list, every single day.
Taking time for self-care as an entrepreneur isn’t easy, but taking time for self-care will make your life as an entrepreneur easier!
