My Backyard… S 25° 18′ 60.00″ – E 31° 00′ 60.00″ or better known as White River, South Africa. A small holiday and farming town just outside the big city of Mbombela (Nelspruit) in the province of Mpumalanga. The area is also referred to as the (S)Lowveld and great to explore the famous Kruger National Park.
What I like the most is my personal Backyard, an awesome place to hike, where giraffes and zebras roam free and join me on my daily hikes. I’m very privileged to live in this incredible place. Being spoiled with breath-taking panoramic views, spectacular sunrises and the peaceful environment.
Once in a while, I like to expand the boundaries of my Backyard and I’ll go and explore the stunning places South Africa has to offer. The different hiking trails, the National Parks, the little villages and so much more.
The next best place where you can find me is Kruger National Park. Just a short drive (according to African standards) away and you are immersed in a totally different world. A world where the Lion is still King, the land of Pumba and Timon. Nearly 2 million hectares of land that stretch for 352 kilometers (20 000 square Kilometers) from north to south along the Mozambique border, just a tiny bit smaller than Belgium.
And yes, I also hike in the Kruger! Although not on my own, of course. The hikes in Kruger are guided backpack trails. You go on a four-day backpacking adventure, self-supported and only leaving your footsteps. Taking awesome memories and stories home!
By sharing by Backyard Adventures I hope I can encourage you to go and explore your own backyard…
Yours truly, Peggy, A Backyard Hiker!
